Oppo R5 Review

Image
Introduction The super-slim, 0.19" (4.85mm)  Oppo R5  was announced at the end of October and was quickly proclaimed the thinnest smartphone in the world - an impressively elegant handset, obviously meant to please users who place aesthetics as a top factor when picking a smartphone. To round off the package, Oppo equipped the R5 with a 64-bit Snapdragon 615, 2 GB of RAM, and a generous 13 MP / 5 MP camera sensor combo. So how does this combo of elegance and top-of-the-midrange hardware work? Let's check it out! Design A delicate smartphone for the style-conscious There is no denying that the Oppo R5 is a pleasure to look at. The manufacturer did not rely just on the slim profile for aesthetics, but on a beautifully crafted matte silver-finished metal frame and back, intertwined with the white, non-glossy plastic bezels. Indeed, the R5 looks and feels like a well-built, premium handset; despite its thickness, it is absolutely sturdy, with no bends ...

Huawei Ascend P8 metal chassis leaks online

Image
Huawei Ascend P8 has already  made the news  a few weeks ago. The first rumored specs suggest the company’s next flagship will follow the tradition for an impressively thin design built around a metal chassis. It should feature a 5.2" 1080p display and run on the HiSilicon Kirin 930 chipset built on TSMC's 16nm process and packing an octa-core processor within. Today we got some new info on the Huawei Ascend P8 – its alleged metal chassis. A close inspection of the leaked pictures reveal yet another super thin frame, though we are yet to learn its exact measurements. Judging by the carved out holes, the camera will feature a single-LED flash, while the phone will come with two ejectable trays. The first tray will be the primary SIM slot for sure, while the second one may be either for a second SIM or for a microSD memory card. We’ve seen Huawei combine the SIM and memory slot into a single tray and you choose what to use inside, so this might be the case with the Hua...

Xiaomi has sold 1 million smartphones in India so far

Image
This year Xiaomi ventured outside of its home market, China, and into India. For many months now, it's been holding pretty much weekly flash sales in partnership with Flipkart, the biggest retailer in the subcontinent. And apparently those have been going quite well. Xiaomi's boss for India, Manu Kumar Jain, has announced today via Twitter that the company has already managed to sell more than one million smartphones over there. This has happened at some unnamed point earlier this month. That's certainly impressive given how limited Xiaomi's phone supplies have been for the subcontinent. It definitely looks like the smartphone maker has somewhat underestimated the demand for its products in India, which may mean it will manage to sell even more units next year. On the other hand, companies such as  OnePlus  and even Micromax (through  its Yu sub-brand ) are anxious to steal customers away from Xiaomi so 2015 is surely going to be an interesting year ove...

Rumour: Apple to bring back 4-inch form factor with ‘iPhone 6s mini’ in 2015

Image
2015 If the  iPhone 6  and  iPhone 6 Plus  were overwhelmingly massive for your tiny palms, Apple might have found a solution to this problem. Rumour has it that Apple will bring back their 4-inch form factor and release the iPhone 6S mini in 2015. According to  Apple Insider , the specifications of the rumoured mini smartphone will match with that of iPhone 5s and the design with iPhone 6. Analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company issued a note to investors claiming that Apple has been working on a new 4-inch iPhone model that could debut in 2015. The alleged iPhone 6S mini may feature a new design with curved screen edges, much like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This could be an attempt to replace the iPhone 5c, Apple’s ‘cheaper’ smartphone that failed to woo audiences. The report also states that the new 4-inch “iPhone 6s mini” may include “purpose-built low cost components” from Qualcomm to keep the price down...

Hands On: YU Yureka (Micromax)

Image
Hands On: YU Yureka (Micromax) Micromax's new phone offers impressive hardware on budget.     There is no denying that Micromax is growing rapidly. However, in recent months, Xiaomi is stealing all the limelight. Before it becomes a problem, Micromax is planning to beat Xiaomi at its own game by providing specs-heavy phone at an affordable price. To do that Micromax has not only launched a phone, but has introduced a brand. Dubbed as Yu Yureka, this phone runs CyanogenMod flavour of Android. Partnering with Amazon as an exclusive reseller, Micromax is taking cue from Xiaomi's distribution model. The Indian brand is likely to bring-in limited handsets to retain the initial hype. This is exactly similar to what Xiaomi did with its handsets. Hardware On the chassis, the Yu Yureka shows no signs of Micromax branding. So basically, it's like XOLO brand that does not talk about its association with LAVA. Going by the design, it's simil...
